Happy Halloween! May the ghouls linger and the ghosts haunt, for it is spooky season. The celebrations may be fizzling off, but that doesn't mean the spooky spirit can continue for a little while longer... I experienced two haunting classics of our time, which I wish I had seen yesterday! While it was no Monster House or Nightmare Before Christmas, these films beckoned Halloween energy.
Children of the Corn (1984)

This movie reminded me a lot of Midsommar (but not at the same time) and would I ever watch it again? Probably not. That ginger is so scary, but not as scary as Malachai!
I thought this movie was about the same plot as In the Tall Grass, but rather focuses on a "deserted town" ruled by children and their religion within the corn. Two outsiders stumbled across their town and were stuck trying to find adults, which would eventually lead to their run in with the town's unhappy, young citizens.
I was intrigued, especially by the humorous 80s special effects at the end, and would say it is definitely a must watch for horror film classics.

Silence of the Lambs (1991)
Everyone mentions other parts of this movie, but this scene had me LAUGHING! This is what it feels like to go up the stairs in the dark. The artistic direction of this scene was so unique.
The shock factor of this movie overall was insane. I can see that this movie set the standard for the "present, find, catch" TV show- an episode that introduces a killer, spends the majority trying to find the killer, and then catches them. It was mysterious, unusual, and often vulgar.
However, the themes did lean transphobic from time to time. Since this would've been released in the beginning of LGBTQ+ conversations, there is no doubt it would have a cultural influence on those who have seen it.
